Description Enrico Tagliavini 2018-02-20 09:30:59 UTC
Description of problem:
I'm trying to apply the latest firmware upgrade to my Dell XPS 15, but it's currently not working, when I try the update it says

# fwupdmgr update --offline
No upgrades for device, current is 5.81.2.1: 5.81.2.1=same
Downloading 0.1.6.1 for XPS 15 9550 System Firmware...
Updating 0.1.6.1 on XPS 15 9550 System Firmware...

Authenticating… [***************************************]
2da31270d317b076424992de14a0f08ae373c137 is already scheduled to be updated

Rebooting doesn't trigger the update. I have no idea why it is convinced there is already a scheduled update. Maybe it's since the last time I updated it. If I try to clear it I get this error:

# fwupdmgr clear-offline
Failed to prepare SQL: near ")": syntax error

Please note this system cannot be updated online, so I'm currently stuck.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

$ rpm -qa | grep fwupd
fwupd-labels-1.0.4-1.fc27.x86_64
fwupdate-efi-10-1.fc27.x86_64
fwupd-1.0.4-1.fc27.x86_64
fwupdate-libs-10-1.fc27.x86_64

How reproducible:
Not sure, I realized this a long time after the issue happened probably. But once in this situation the SQL syntax error is 100% reproducible.

Comment 1 Enrico Tagliavini 2018-02-22 08:44:23 UTC
Have to do a little correction. The first time I performed a cold boot the BIOS update actually started. So a reboot is not enough, a full shutdown and power up is required to perform the BIOS update. Sorry this was a bit confusing.

the syntax error problem when trying to run the clear-offline command is still present though, so it's 100% reproducible, even with the latest update from this morning.

# rpm -qa | grep fwupd
