rpm -qa kernel

I don't know why the actual kernel 4.14.18-300.fc27.x86_64 runing at this moment doesn't appear with "rpm -qa kernel"

NOt sure if this is realted. But since 4.15.4 (also 4.15.6) Lenovo T420 freezes after a couple of minutes. This seems to be triggered by unison which causes a lot a disk read activity. The system becomes unrepsonsive under is blocked by iowait. after few seconds it freezes. Killing unison (and therefore stopping the discaccess) doesn't help. The system freezes with the HD light permanently on.

4.15.3 works fine.

let me know if I can provide any information. The logs don't seem to contain anything useful.

Freezing after a couple of minutes is probably not going to be the same root cause as failure to boot up. Please file a separate bug for your freezing issues.

The easiest way to track these problems down is to do a git bisect unfortunately.

last kernel update 4.15.7-300.fc27.x86_64 didn't resolve the problem, can't have access to terminal, can't have a boot log to show.Four kernel update since 4.15 and no one works for me. What kind of information I can give for this bug to have a solution ?

kernel updates 4.15.8-300.fc27.x86_64 and 4.15.9-300.fc27.x86_64, didn't resolve the problem still blocked with black screen.
I see several old pc with nvidia graphic card 9300M having problem to boot or artefacts, freeze etc...Can't find help to resolve this .Please tell me which logs can help to identify the source of this problem for booting.

My system running Fedora 28 x86_64 also seems to face a 'freeze issue' with recent kernels. My system is Samsung RF410 running Intel Nehalem 540m and Nvidia GT420m with 4GB ram. I have read the common bugs section in F28 changelogs. The common reason seems to be with the SATA Mobile Link Power Management and i set the kernel commandline to include ahci.mobile_lpm_policy =0 . It also seems related to rhgb and plymouth-set-default-theme issue. I removed 'rhgh quiet' and set plymouth-set-default-theme to text and with option '-R' to rebuild initramfs. But the hang issue still persist. Furthermore, in your changelog, there is a mention of the 'lack of entropy' issue, is there any progress on this? It is really disappointing to 'hard reboot' my laptop this way. I depend on Fedora distro for its past stability to execute most tasks for work or personal. Hope to see it resolved.

The kernel issue seems to date back from 4.15 and it got worse with 4.16 with more freeze on first boot. Second boot usually works fine. Occasionally it still freeze. FYI.

*********** MASS BUG UPDATE **************

We apologize for the inconvenience. There are a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 27 kernel bugs.

Fedora 27 has now been rebased to 4.17.7-100.fc27. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you have moved on to Fedora 28, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 28.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.
