Description of problem: caja does not show thumbnails for (mp4/h264) video files on samba shares Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Version: 1.20.2 Release: 1.fc28 Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install MATE Desktop (or just caja) 2. Enable rpm-fusion free repo 3. Install h264 capable gstreamer. This will allow previewing of local mp4/h264 files under caja: sudo dnf install gstreamer1-libav 4. Under Caja, set the 'Show Thumbnails' option to 'Always' and 'Only for files smaller than' to 4GB under Caja's Preferences -> Preview tab. Switch Caja's display to to Icon mode then browse to a samba share containing video files less than 4GB in size. Actual results: No thumbnails are generated for any video files stored on samba shares Expected results: If I copy any of my mp4/h264 files from my samba share to the local drive, caja generates and displays thumbnails for them fine. Caja also has no problem generating thumbnails for image files stored on samba shares, just not videos. Additional info: I enabled debug for cajas thumbnail code and when I tried browsing a directory over samba containing an MP4 file I got the following dumped to STDOUT: ** Message: 18:58:18.425: (Main Thread) Locking mutex ** Message: 18:58:18.425: (Main Thread) Adding thumbnail: smb://192.168.0.4/xyn/samba/20180603_005819.mp4 ** Message: 18:58:18.425: (Main Thread) Unlocking mutex ** Message: 18:58:18.426: (Prioritize) Locking mutex ** Message: 18:58:18.426: (Prioritize) Unlocking mutex ** Message: 18:58:18.426: (Main Thread) Creating thumbnails thread ** Message: 18:58:18.426: (Thumbnail Thread) Locking mutex ** Message: 18:58:18.426: (Thumbnail Thread) Unlocking mutex ** Message: 18:58:18.426: (Thumbnail Thread) Creating thumbnail: smb://192.168.0.4/xyn/samba/20180603_005819.mp4 ** Message: 18:58:19.217: (Prioritize) Locking mutex ** Message: 18:58:19.217: (Prioritize) Unlocking mutex
This message is a reminder that Fedora 28 is nearing its end of life. On 2019-May-28 Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 28. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '28'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 28 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 28 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-05-28. Fedora 28 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug.
