Description Stefan Becker 2005-06-18 15:18:19 EDT
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050524 Fedora/1.0.4-4 Firefox/1.0.4

Description of problem:
Konqueror still shows "Devices" but when you try to select it, it just pops up an error dialog with "Protocol not supported: devices"

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Konqueror
2. Select Services
3. Right mouse button on Devices -> Open in New Window

Actual Results: Error requestor pops up saying devices: protocol not supported

Expected Results: Should show devices available on this system

Additional info:

I reinstalled FC4 when I upgraded my FC3 machine, but my home directory, including ~/.kde, stayed untouched. This could be a FC3 (KDE 3.3.x) to FC4 (KDE 3.4.x) preferences upgrading issue.
Comment 1 Ngo Than 2005-06-20 16:32:55 EDT
the device protocol is obsolete in new kde-3.4.x, please use media:/ instead.
Comment 2 Stefan Becker 2005-06-22 03:03:08 EDT
It is a KDE 3.3 -> 3.4 settings migration issue. Here is the fix:

 - close all Konqueror sessions
 - delete/rename directory ~/.kde/share/apps/konqsidebartng
 - start Konqueror

You'll get brand-new sidebar settings which have "Storage Media" correctly
referencing "media:/" under the Services tree.

KDE 3.3 settings: devices.desktop
KDE 3.4 settings: media.desktop
Comment 3 Ngo Than 2005-06-22 04:54:51 EDT
i have added device protocol back for backward compat. It's fixed in rawhide
