Description Yovko Lambrev 2005-06-19 08:53:54 UTC
Description of problem:
After installing Fedora Core 4 there is no sound and network because of
Disabling IRQ #11 error at boot time (when starting eth0).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install FC4 on T20 (and some other chipsets probably - there are a lot of
complains on the Net for 2.6.11)
2. Normal boot.
3. ...

Actual results:
Disabling IRQ #11
After that USB works bad (mouse is too slow for example). There is no sound and
network interface can't work.

Expected results:
Network/Sound/USB have to work properly.

Additional info:
The problem exist only on my IBM ThinkPad T20 (PIII-700/256RAM/DVD/USB/Cirrus
Logic CS46xx sound/PCMCIA 3Com-Megahertz 3CCFEM556 Ethernet&Modem). On my other
ThinkPad T40 everything is OK.

The problem exist with Fedora Core 3 also with kernel 2.6.11. FC3 and FC4 with
kernel 2.6.10-1.770_FC3 are OK.

Comment 7 Yovko Lambrev 2005-07-06 19:16:28 UTC
After installing kernel-2.6.12-1.1387_FC4 everything works fine. Actually except
my 3Com-Megahertz 3CCFEM556 PCMCIA card I change it with Prism2-based wireless
card and everything is OK.

Comment 8 Dave Jones 2005-07-15 21:38:30 UTC
[This comment has been added as a mass update for all FC4 kernel bugs.
If you have migrated this bug from an FC3 bug today, ignore this comment.]

Please retest your problem with todays 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4 update.

If your problem involved being unable to boot, or some hardware not being
detected correctly, please make sure your /etc/modprobe.conf is correct *BEFORE*
installing any kernel updates.
If in doubt, you can recreate this file using..

mv /etc/sysconfig/hwconf /etc/sysconfig/hwconf.bak
mv /etc/modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.conf.bak
kudzu

Thank you.

Comment 9 Yovko Lambrev 2005-07-17 17:15:37 UTC
Everything is OK for me, except my 3Com Megahertz PCMCIA Card 3CCFEM556B. I am
using another card without a problem...

I have never had problems with boot.

Comment 10 Yovko Lambrev 2005-07-17 17:17:29 UTC
The problem with the 3Com PCMCIA is the same... Disabling IRQ #11...

Comment 11 Rudolf Ulc 2005-07-17 19:13:24 UTC
Sound card CS46XX is working now on my thinkpad T20. I have T20 with internal
e100 network card. 3CCFE574BT PCMCIA card work OK too.

Comment 12 Dave Jones 2005-09-30 07:01:09 UTC
Mass update to all FC4 bugs:

An update has been released (2.6.13-1.1526_FC4) which rebases to a new upstream
kernel (2.6.13.2). As there were ~3500 changes upstream between this and the
previous kernel, it's possible your bug has been fixed already.

Please retest with this update, and update this bug if necessary.

Thanks.

Comment 13 Dave Jones 2005-11-10 20:06:49 UTC
2.6.14-1.1637_FC4 has been released as an update for FC4.
Please retest with this update, as a large amount of code has been changed in
this release, which may have fixed your problem.

Thank you.

Comment 14 Dave Jones 2006-02-03 07:12:03 UTC
This is a mass-update to all currently open kernel bugs.

A new kernel update has been released (Version: 2.6.15-1.1830_FC4)
based upon a new upstream kernel release.

Please retest against this new kernel, as a large number of patches
go into each upstream release, possibly including changes that
may address this problem.
