Description udo 2018-11-05 15:21:41 UTC
Description of problem:
When building code, e.g. of ntpsec in my case, we notice slowdowns which might be caused by the fedora 29 'upgrade':

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
libxslt-1.1.32-3.fc29.x86_64

How reproducible:
 "xsltproc" --stringparam callout.graphics 0 --stringparam navig.graphics 0 --stringparam admon.textlabel 1 --stringparam admon.graphics 0 "/etc/asciidoc/docbook-xsl/manpage.xsl" "/usr/src/redhat/BUILD/ntpsec-1.1.2/build/main/ntpd/ntp.conf-man.txt.xml"
error : Operation in progress
warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/docbook.xsl"
compilation error: file http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl line 9 element import
xsl:import : unable to load http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/docbook.xsl

Actual results:
Some connectivity-related error, see above.

Expected results:
Smooth builds.

Additional info:
Did not see those on Fedora 28 but this might be a lucky correlation.

Comment 1 udo 2018-11-05 15:32:26 UTC
Similarly:

error : Operation in progress
warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/formal.xsl"
compilation error: file http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/docbook.xsl line 43 element include
xsl:include : unable to load http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/formal.xsl
error : Operation in progress
warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/task.xsl"
compilation error: file http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/docbook.xsl line 64 element include
xsl:include : unable to load http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/task.xsl
error : Operation in progress
warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/manifest.xsl"
compilation error: file http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl line 10 element import
xsl:import : unable to load http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/manifest.xsl

I.e.: the idea as distributed with fedora 29 does not really `work` this way...

Comment 2 Ben Cotton 2019-10-31 18:51:23 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 29 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 29 on 2019-11-26.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '29'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 29 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.
