Description Michael A. Peters 2005-08-21 08:01:02 EDT
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050720 Fedora/1.0.6-1.1.fc4 Firefox/1.0.6

Description of problem:
The current version of gnuplot with Fedora Core 4 supports drawing vectors on in 2D. It can not draw vectors using splot.

According to http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/gnuplot/gnuplot/NEWS?rev=1.98 that functionallity seems to be in gnuplot CVS.

I would very much like that to be patched into gnuplot for Fedora Core.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. try to use vectors with splot
2. gnuplot> splot [-2:2] [-2:2] [-2:2] '-' with vectors
3. input data ('e' ends) > -1 -1 -1 1 1 1

Actual Results: it plots a point, rejects the 5th and 6th data points needed

Expected Results: should draw a vector from (-1,-1,-1) to (0,0,0)

Additional info:

Works fine with 2D

gnuplot> plot [-2:2] [-2:2] '-' with vectors
input data ('e' ends) > -1 -1 1 1
input data ('e' ends) > e

results in a vector from (-1,-1) to (0,0)
but vectors are not implemented for splot
Comment 1 Michael A. Peters 2005-08-21 11:31:02 EDT
I built todays CVS based on core 4 spec file - buffer overflow in x11 terminal,
png terminal not available, pslatex terminal works - but the last 3 lines of
resultulting tex file are missing and have to be manually added - but then the
splot vectors works very well.

I don't know their release schedule for 4.2 but it *would be nice* to at least
have the splot vectors (if possible) backported into 4.0.0 for fc5 - if possible.

I'll probably just build the 4.1 cvs in an odd install location and use it just
for pslatex (what I need anyway) with splot vectors, so my issue has workaround,
but *would be nice* rfe for FC5.

I'll keep track of the updates for the official gnuplot. I'd rather not update
to a CVS version for all users though as the stability as you've seen sometimes
is rather flaky for those.

And backporting doesn't really make much sense if a new version is supposed to
come out in a reasonable timeframe.

Read ya, Phil
