Description of problem: When using "select" function in terminal, selected text doesn't remain selected. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. select Terminal at bottom of Cinnamon desktop. 2. Type ls to list files on ~ 3. Move cursor to front of any file or folder listed 4. Press left button on mouse (standard configuration) 5. Move mouse right to end of title. Actual results: Area moved across in step 5 highlights but immediately returns to normal. Expected results: Area moved across remain highlighted, selected and can either be copied or pasted at the current position of cursor. Additional info: Operates the same with Cinnamon and LXDE. Works correctly with Version 30 Cinnamon spin.
Update: problem exists on 29 and 30 upgrades as well as 28.
Problem is associated with clipboard settings -> Preferences -> Settings -> Capture Hyperlinks Only is checked and -> History -> Purge History after Timeout is checked. Unchecking these settings returns operation to what it was prior to May 24, 2019. These options may be useful. However, I suggest systems be shipped with those options in the original state with explanations included in "What's New" or like announcements.
What package is this bug filed against? "Terminal" is an orphaned (unmaintained) package. Were you looking for gnome-terminal perhaps?
(In reply to Ankur Sinha (FranciscoD) from comment #3) > What package is this bug filed against? "Terminal" is an orphaned > (unmaintained) package. Were you looking for gnome-terminal perhaps? Thanks for your response. As explained above, whatever Fedora Cinnamon has shipped as standard. I believe it is gnome because gnome acts the same way. However, as the previous statement explains, the fix is in the clipboard settings.
I expect it is gnome-terminal. I do not know who sets the default options for it, but I'll reassign this to the right package so that the maintainers may be informed.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 30 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 30 on 2020-05-26. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '30'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 30 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 30 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2020-05-26. Fedora 30 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
I am having the same problem with Fedora 33. With Gnome3, I cannot cut and paste. For example, I start gnome-terminal, type ls, then try to copy an entry with the mouse. As soon as I move the mouse the highlighted text goes away so I have no option to copy. In Firefox I select a URL then copy, then I try to paste it to the gnome-terminal but nothing gets copied. I have turned off all shell extensions. Please note that this works on my other laptop which was a fresh Fedora 32 install updated to Fedora 33. Also note that this system was updated from earlier versions of Fedora several times (loaded with Fedora 20-something originally).
