Description Bluejay Adametz 2005-12-31 02:18:06 UTC
Description of problem:
Since upgrading from FC3 to FC4, sound will not capture in stereo from line input. Attempting to
capture in stereo results in only the left channel. I tried this on another machine upgraded earlier,
with a different sound card, and got the same results. Booting back into FC3, stereo capture works;
boot FC4, only get one channel.

Same results using arecord or audacity.

Seems like it might be a seetting someplace, but I can't find it. I don't have any other sound inputs
wired up, so I don't know if any other inputs have the same problem.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
machine 1:
kernel 2.6.14-1.1653_FC4smp
Xalsa-lib-1.0.10-2.FC4
alsa-utils-1.0.10-1.FC4
alsa-lib-devel-1.0.10-2.FC4

machine 2:
2.6.14-1.1644_FC4
alsa-utils-1.0.9rf-2.FC4
alsa-lib-1.0.10-2.FC4

How reproducible:
always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade from FC3 to FC4
2. Attempt to capture stereo sound with arecord or audacity

Actual results:
Sound is captured in mono on the left channel, or only the left channel is captured (I can't tell for
sure)

Expected results:
Both left and right channels are captured.

Some how-to for the latest alsa-driver and FC4 is here:
http://people.redhat.com/stransky/alsa/
Could you check it?

Comment 2 Bluejay Adametz 2006-01-04 02:46:26 UTC
I tried the latest stable release on machine #2. Same problem. I'll try the development version next on
that machine.

Comment 3 Bluejay Adametz 2006-01-04 23:49:04 UTC
Ah! Success! Using the 1.0.11rc2 I kits can now capture both channels on machine #2. I'll work on
updating machine #1 over the next few days (it's my main machine and I gotta have my backups),
but I fully expect this will resolve the issue.

Thanks! (plus I learned some new stuff about rpmbuild in the bargain :)).

I have the same problem from one month ago, using a Fedora Core 4 after having
updated it.
I can't capture stereo from line-in using my motherboard integrated soundchip or
using a SBLive 5.1 (with integrated soundcard disabled).

kernel-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4
alsa-utils-1.0.10-1.FC4
alsa-lib-1.0.10-3.FC4
alsa-tools-1.0.9-1.fc4
alsa-utils-debuginfo-1.0.10-1.FC4

/proc/asound/cards

Have you checked 11rc4 drivers?
