Description Randy Holmes 2020-03-08 14:53:42 UTC
Description of problem:

May I please request getting Logcheck compiled to run on CentOS 8?
Thanks.

Comment 1 Matthias Runge 2020-03-10 09:18:53 UTC
Randy,

unfortunately, I understand your request and desire to have this, but I don't have the time to maintain anything on epel8 nor do I have interest in doing that. I am happy to orphan/hand over the package to anyone interested in maintaining it.

Comment 6 Randy Holmes 2021-12-04 02:12:15 UTC
Thanks, but it appears this notification is about lockfile-progs, rather than logcheck which this thread was started for.

Comment 7 Fedora Update System 2021-12-12 00:36:28 UTC
FEDORA-EPEL-2021-23b4b86236 has been pushed to the Fedora EPEL 8 stable repository.

Comment 8 Matthias Runge 2021-12-13 08:50:57 UTC
Randy, you are right. I believe Sebastian is still working on getting logcheck compiled/pushed.

Comment 9 Fedora Admin user for bugzilla script actions 2022-01-21 20:50:56 UTC
This package has changed maintainer in Fedora. Reassigning to the new maintainer of this component.

I'm not sure what constitutes "working on [it]", but the FC35 SRPM (https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1792340) builds on EL8 with no modification:

https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/brianjmurrell/epel-8/build/3259314/

And then to install it you need perl-mime-construct which needs perl-Proc-WaitStat and perl-IPC-Signal but those all build right out of the F35 SRPMs also as can be seen in the same COPR project above.

Anyone wanting to use the above builds can add my COPR project to their EL8 system (as a repo) with:

# dnf copr enable brianjmurrell/epel-8

and then just install logcheck:

# dnf install logcheck

Comment 11 Brian J. Murrell 2022-01-29 19:36:11 UTC
Anyway, hopefully the previous comment lubricates things enough that building for EPEL8 should be trivial.

Comment 12 Randy Holmes 2022-01-30 01:41:28 UTC
Brian, thank you very much. I am happy to use this solution and look forward to it being included for Rhel 8.

Comment 13 Randy Holmes 2022-08-08 03:22:51 UTC
Hi Brian,

Just setting up an RHEL8 server with Logcheck, but got this.

dnf install logcheck
Updating Subscription Management repositories.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 for x86_64 - AppStream (RPMs) 291 B/s | 364 B 00:01

Error: Failed to download metadata for repo 'rhel-8-for-x86_64-appstream-rpms': Cannot download repomd.xml: Cannot download repodata/repomd.xml: All mirrors were tried

Any help appreciated.

Also, would you please be able to do a RHEL9 version please?

Comment 14 Matthias Runge 2022-08-09 06:24:29 UTC
Randy,

the error you see is an issue with RHEL repositories.

Let me repeat the message in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1811422#c1 : Personally, I have no interest in this package anymore, no cycles to do meaningful work on it and would be more than happy to hand it off to someone who is able to dedicate more love to it.

Comment 15 Randy Holmes 2022-08-09 14:54:01 UTC
Thanks for the reply Matthias, I was actually hoping that Brian might reply.

Cheers

What exactly are you looking for a reply on? The error you pasted in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1811422#c13 has nothing to do with my logcheck build in copr.

As for EL9, I am not doing any EL9 work yet. I have not yet migrated any systems to EL9. You are of course free to fork my COPR repo and see if you can get it to simply build on EL9.

Comment 18 Randy Holmes 2022-12-11 02:54:33 UTC
Thanks for the reply.

I am just an end user looking for a working RPM to use with EL8 and hopefully EL9.

I don't have the time or the brain cells left to work out how to make things work.

Cheers

Comment 19 Brian J. Murrell 2022-12-23 13:26:52 UTC
@random.au I've added EPEL-9 to my (now sub-optimally named) epel-8 COPR project. logcheck-1.4.0 is built there there for EPEL-9 also now. Please see https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/brianjmurrell/epel-8/.

Comment 20 Randy Holmes 2022-12-24 14:06:29 UTC
Thanks Brian, I just tested on RHEL 9.1 and got this:

 Problem: conflicting requests
  - nothing provides lockfile-progs needed by logcheck-1.4.0-0.01.el9.noarch
  - nothing provides perl-mime-construct needed by logcheck-1.4.0-0.01.el9.noarch

I can't find either of these as el9 RPM files.

Any help appreciated.

Comment 21 Brian J. Murrell 2023-01-02 20:44:26 UTC
@random.au I've ported a few more of the dependencies to EPEL-9. Please try again.

Comment 22 Randy Holmes 2023-01-03 06:37:23 UTC
Thanks Brian, it lives!

Now the fun bit of editing all the rules to make it relevant to RHEL9

I am very pleased, thanks again.

https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-EPEL-2023-9b80870152 contains the last non-officiel-epel dependency
As the logcheck epel8 branch was created, I've submitted the build, but the long term maintainer of the component is still yet to be found.

I would suggest to defer this question to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2031683
