Description Bill Nottingham 2006-02-16 16:13:59 EST
Description of problem:

My machine, it does not boot
 Xen hangs before it can mount root
Looking at it I do spy
 Where it hangs - ACPI
Normal kernels boot just swell
 acpi=off does as well

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

2.6.15-1.1955_FC5{smp,hypervisor}

If I build with CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG, it hangs at:

ACPI: Subsystem revision 20060127
evgpeblk-0941 [06] ev_create_gpe_block   : GPE 00 to 1F [ _GPE] 4 regs on int 0x9

From Bill:

So, some testing of various combinations:

Hypervisor variants:

A = stock one in 1.1955
B = self-built from 1.1955 sources. gcc-4.x
C = self-built from 1.1955 sources. gcc32

A = FAIL
B = PASS
C = PASS

(note that 'PASS' in this case boots userland with a an interrupt
screaming at a rate of ~3 million interrupts per minute.)
Comment 7 Bill Nottingham 2006-03-03 11:49:39 EST
Still hangs on 2009.4.2, still easily worked around with acpi=off.
Comment 8 Stephen Tweedie 2006-03-13 16:22:24 EST
Hmm -- what hv/kernel options are you using here? Are you using "sync_console"
when capturing serial console?
Comment 9 Brian Stein 2006-06-28 17:36:48 EDT
Still hanging?
Comment 10 Bill Nottingham 2006-06-28 20:04:44 EDT
Machine died. *shrug*. Probably can be closed unless it pops up somewhere else.
