Description of problem: It takes 45 seconds to authentificate the user which is served by NIS. Once the user is logged in, there is no directory "/run/user/<userid>" created for the user. When I execute an application from the commandline it throws me a warning like: QStandardPaths: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not set, defaulting to '/tmp/runtime-myusername' The command env | grep XDG shows: XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/xdg:/usr/share/kde-settings/kde-profile/default/xdg XDG_SESSION_PATH=/org/freedesktop/DisplayManager/Session3 XDG_MENU_PREFIX=kf5- XDG_SEAT=seat0 XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP=KDE XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11 XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE XDG_SEAT_PATH=/org/freedesktop/DisplayManager/Seat0 XDG_SESSION_CLASS=user XDG_VTNR=2 XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share/kde-settings/kde-profile/default/share:/usr/local/share:/usr/share yptest, ypwhich and ypcat passwd are OK. This bug appeared after an upgrade from Fedora 31 to 32 and on a second machine from Fedora 30 to 32. Machines running Fedora 31 are not affected. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): nss_nis-3.1-4.fc32.x86_64 How reproducible: Upgrade to Fedora 32 Steps to Reproduce: 1. Setup NIS for the client 2. Login a user served by NIS Actual results: It takes 45 seconds to authentificate the user. The user can login but can't work properly. Expected results: The user should be authentificated immediately with no delay, all the enviroment variables should be set correct and "/run/user/<userid>" should be created. The user should work properly.
This bug is perhaps related to "pam" and not to "nss_nis"?
I think this bug is a duplicate of bug 1829572.
(In reply to Edgar Hoch from comment #2) > I think this bug is a duplicate of bug 1829572. Yes, this is a duplicate and the workaround in 1829572 solves the issue. You can close this bug report. Thanks for your effort.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 32 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 32 on 2021-05-25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '32'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 32 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 32 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-05-25. Fedora 32 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
