bridge-utils used to be included in RHEL and CentOS, but was dropped in RHEL 8 / CentOS 8. Given that it's still available in Fedora, would it be possible to have it built for EPEL 8 ? The specific usecase I have in mind is network-scripts, which is shipped as part RHEL 8 / CentOS 8 and calls out to brctl to setup bridging. Thanks!
Note: as of 10.00.7 network-scripts doesn't rely on brctl anymore (https://github.com/fedora-sysv/initscripts/commit/bf40c2768d6b6614cc0f1b4fb68ca011489e89d3).
The bridge-utils package is DEPRECATED: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/shemminger/bridge-utils.git/tree/README Instead use the "bridge" command from iproute package.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 33 development cycle. Changing version to 33.
Even bridge-utils might be deprecated, some other Linux distributions are shipping a more recent version (released last year) than Fedora currently does. David, may you let us know whether you're interested in maintaining bridge-utils in EPEL 8 or not? If not, please add me as co-maintainer, so that I can handle EPEL 8 (and bump it in Fedora to the current version). FAS name: robert
I've updated to 1.7.1 in f34 and given you commit rights; please feel free to add the EPEL8 branch. Thanks.
