Description of problem: FC5 started in single user mode (via telinit) does not allow umounting /usr (which I needed to resize /usr). fuser shows that sh is keeping mapped files; /proc/<PID>/smaps shows that /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive and /usr/lib/gconv/gconv-modules.cache are kept opened/mapped. The workaround I used was to run set LANG=C exec /bin/sh After that I could umount /usr and resize it; I believe /usr should not be required for single mode opration.
