Description Petr Parik 2020-11-19 19:52:59 UTC
Description of problem:

The Battle.net app starts and allows entering login information, but crashes afterwards before showing the game list window.

It is not possible to run Battle.net games directly (e.g. StarCraft Remastered), because they automatically start Battle.net app which crashes.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

wine-5.21-1.fc33

How reproducible:

always

Steps to Reproduce:

1. install wine (dnf install wine)
2. install Battle.net app (https://www.blizzard.com/en-gb/apps/battle.net/desktop)
3. run Battle.net app
4. log in

Actual results:

crash

Expected results:

normal function (show list of games)

Additional info:

worked fine before wine update (approx week ago), downgrading to wine-5.18-2.fc33 does not help

No issue here. I would have seen more than your bug report if there was a widespread problem.

Did you just upgrade to Fedora 33? If so, you may need to remove 'wine-dxvk' from your system.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/DXVKwined3d

If you did not just upgrade then please try a clean wine prefix:

WINEPREFIX=~/tempwineprefix wine battle.net.installer.exe

Comment 2 Petr Parik 2020-11-20 20:43:18 UTC
Michael,

I did upgrade to Fedora 33 recently, but somehow Battle.net worked after the upgrade - until the wine update, thus the confusion.

Removing 'wine-dxvk' package solved the problem.

How can I thank you?

Comment 3 Michael Cronenworth 2020-11-21 02:33:06 UTC
Thanks for confirming. It's possibly a wine or DXVK bug that needs investigating. Reassigning.

Comment 4 Chris Rankin 2020-11-24 20:41:22 UTC
I can confirm this bug with my AMD Radeon (TM) R7 300 Series "BONNAIRE" graphics card. Removing these packages prevents the crash:

# dnf erase wine-dxvk
Dependencies resolved.

Comment 5 Fedora Update System 2020-11-29 19:59:44 UTC
FEDORA-2020-e939f7b8be has been submitted as an update to Fedora 33. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2020-e939f7b8be

Comment 6 František Zatloukal 2020-11-29 20:02:27 UTC
I've pushed wine-dxvk with d3d9 backend disabled by default until underlying issues in wine get fixed ( https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45277 ). It should fix issues with Battle.net while wine would continue to use dxvk as d3d11 backend for most of the Games from Battle.net.
