Does it happen only at shutdown, or any time you log out? There are several issues regarding crash on log out. This seems slightly different, though. If it happens on logout, it could be a potential duplicate of bug #1960874
Before a reboot or system shutdown the system is logged out. And yes, I do see it at logout.

How can we proceed from here?
Perhaps there is a relation with me fiddling with vm.min_free_kbytes to get the box more stable (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214949) but I do not see any relevant messages when gnome-shell crashes.
Sadly the backtrace is useless. Can you double check the debug info packages and the actual ones have identical versions? E.g. `rpm -qv mutter-debuginfo` and `rpm -qv mutter` should have the same version numbers. (and the same for glib2, gnome-shell, etc).
Also seems you have disabled coredumpctl, as you get the core dumps on disk instead of them being handled by coredumpctl. Another thing to check is to get the journal from gnome-shell from some recent crash, e.g. `journalctl _PID=<pid-of-crashed-gnome-shell>`.

Yea something is acting funny. Two experiments to make: 1. Run without Javascript JIT (to see if that gets you a usable backtrace) To do this, make sure GJS_DISABLE_JIT=1 is in the environment where gnome-shell is launched (e.g add to /etc/environment and reboot). 2. See if the issue reproduces with plain mutter This is a bit complicated. You'll have to hand craft a session from a TTY, and manually suspend. E.g. after installing weston-terminal (part of the weston package), run dbus-run-session bash -c 'sleep 4 && WAYLAND_DISPLAY=wayland-123 weston-terminal & mutter --display-server --wayland --wayland-display=wayland-123' from a tty, and then suspend using the command line from the terminal that'll show up after some seconds.
Will do #1 first.

After a few small changes in lkrg and with default vm.min_free_kbytes value the coredumps behave the same. No usable dnf hint. See https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214949 and https://github.com/openwall/lkrg/issues/131

It appears gnome-shell does not crash with thunderbird, 4 terminals and Transmission gtk running. With Firefox added (and perhaps other programs) it does crash after a while but exclusively when I am not at the keyboard. How can we populate /usr/lib/debug/.build-id (again) so gdb can do it's work?

When I install all debuginfo's for the files mentioned in an ldd of gnome-ghell the backtrace still is unchanged. What am I doing wrong?

FWIW: $ gnome-extensions list user-theme.github.com system-monitor.gmail.com just-perfection-desktop@just-perfection vertical-overview.com hidetopbar.ca ding user-themes is disabled. system-monitor.gmail.com I have been using for many years.
I found that disabling hidetopbar.ca stablizes the system. Haven't seen gnome-shell coredumps in almost 48 hours.
