What happened?

During the installation of Ocp 4.7 on baremetal with ipi installation kernel getting panic with error

What did you expect to happen?

Nodes should boot up as expected and installation should proceed.

Anything else we need to know?

The issue is happening while trying to install on iPXE on Legacy firmware BIOS.

Comment 4 Amit Chaturvedi 2021-06-24 08:20:14 UTC
Interim update from Customer

"we made another attempt using a bare metal node as provisioner to install OCP and , in this case, the installation was successfully done.
It seems like in order to install a 3 node baremetal cluster, is needed another baremetal provisioner node.
So the problem is using a Vmware virtual provisioning node. I don't know why, during initramfs decompression goes in kernel panic."

Comment 5 Bob Fournier 2021-07-08 12:30:57 UTC
From comment 4 - it works when using a baremetal provisioning node and panics when using a VM as the provisioning node - that you may be hitting memory constraints with the VM.

Adding a NEEDINFO for the requested data from Comment 2.

Comment 7 Bob Fournier 2021-08-06 13:19:11 UTC
Mithilesh - there's not much we can analyze without logs. Again the most likely cause was a memory issue.

Can we close this bug for now and reopen it with more data if the problem occurs again?

Comment 8 Bob Fournier 2021-08-10 14:29:16 UTC
Closing this for now as we don't have anything to analyze. Please reopen if problem can be duplicated and logs can be provided,

Comment 9 Red Hat Bugzilla 2023-09-15 01:09:08 UTC
The needinfo request[s] on this closed bug have been removed as they have been unresolved for 500 days
