Description Brian Wright 2006-07-05 12:38:55 EDT
Description of problem:
mkinitrd is not creating the appropriate root mount location, resulting in
a /dev/root kernel panic

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Current release

How reproducible:
Install a kernel rpm or compile a custom kernel and then run mkinitrd for the
given kernel. The kernel rpm install does the mkinitrd automatically

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compile the kernel and copy bzImage to /boot/vzlinux-
2. mkinitrd initrd-2.6.xx.x
3. Reboot the system. A Kernel panic is generated because /dev/root can't be
mounted to /sysroot
Actual results:
init has "mount /sysroot"

Expected results:
init should have "mount -o defaults --ro -t ext3 /dev/hdc2 /sysroot"

Additional info: Please see the attached text file, it was posted to the fedora-
users list and gives more information on this issue. I currently have to hand
edit the init file to change "mount /sysroot" to "mount -o defaults --ro -t
ext3 /dev/hdc2 /sysroot
