I am installing from hardrive dowload from ftp site. Ok - I searched your archives and found similiar failures, but not this exact one which refers to MAKEDEV. But, extrapolating from the other issues, I assumed my problem might be a bad MAKEDEV image. So, I re-downloaded it IN BINARY mode, from a DIFFERENT mirror. This did not rectify the problem. Then I tried the updates img floppy. The update image was loaded ok, but I got the same exact failure. What is a fellow to do? Is the key needed to be downloaded? If so, could I be missing it & where does it go? Thanks! I have received some input from someone that my problem is that I have downloaded the src packages instead of the executable packages. Be advised that this is not all my fault, although I do take some blame: your download instructions called for: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/current/i386/RedHat/RPMS Well - ur server is hard to get to, so I went to a mirror. Confirm that your path is incorrect for a mirror site. The actual path is: /pub/redhat/current/i386/en/RedHat/RPMS or, I assume (?): /pub/redhat/redhat-7.0/i386/en/RedHat/RPMS where did I get my files?: /pub/redhat/redhat-7.0/SRPMS/i386/SRPMS Being a total newbie to redhat - I didn't know the difference between SRPMS ans RPMS - I figured maybe SRPMS were a newer convention. Try not to laugh, please. So, you may want to update you download instructions. I will turn a few screws upstairs for my part. Thanks!
Sorry for the confusion - I hope everything is working well now.
