you should have to follow the first comment of the extension:
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/307/dash-to-dock/
and build the 40 branch as:
git clone https://github.com/ewlsh/dash-to-dock.git
cd dash-to-dock
git checkout ewlsh/gnome-40
make _build
mv _build /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/dash-to-dock\@micxgx.gmail.com
