i have also tried to install the proprietary nvidia driver ( which works well
on the same computer with FC5 ) but i was unable to compile it :
error: âCONFIG_X86_L1_CACHE_SHIFTâ undeclared here (not in a function)
but i guess it is more an nvidia problem.

Comment 1 Jukka Ketelaars 2006-08-21 18:00:09 UTC
I used to get this with an ATI 9200 if the agpgart module was not loaded
(apparently because it stops DRI from being activated). Loading it before
starting x (or compiling it into the kernel as in the kernel packages) made the
problem go away.

Comment 2 Kristian Høgsberg 2006-08-23 18:26:52 UTC
There is no 3d driver for nvidia hardware, so that is not going to work, sorry.

As for the problem in comment #1, this is a different issue, but yes, the x
server needs the agpgart module loaded for dri to work, and if you compile your
own kernel you're basically on your own.
