Describe the issue: Found multiple issues during host os upgrade when trying to upgrade from 4.3 to 5.1 (versions can be considered a generic 4.x to 5.x) Describe the task you were trying to accomplish: Upgrade non-containerized cluster from 4.x to 5.x with rbd-mirroring Suggestions for improvement: 1) We need to ask users to backup all ceph folders in chapter Backing up the files before the host OS upgrade I found issues with not backing up /var/lib/ceph in 4.6.1. Manually upgrading Ceph Monitor nodes and their operating systems 2) As per the inputs from one who had done this procedure previously that user will have to run chown -R /etc/ceph chown -R /var/log/ceph chown -R /var/lib/ceph on all nodes once os upgrade is complete 3) [small issue] In 4.6. Updating the host operating system description second paragraph >>You must manually upgrade all other nodes the other word is not making sense 4) [RFE] Swap sections 4.4 and 4.5 as it current 4.4 is more related to 4.6

Hi Vasishta, For your suggestions for improvement, could you please answer the following questions I have? This information is now in the Upgrade Guide: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_ceph_storage/5/html-single/upgrade_guide/index 1) We need to ask users to backup all ceph folders in chapter Backing up the files before the host OS upgrade I found issues with not backing up /var/lib/ceph in 4.6.1. Manually upgrading Ceph Monitor nodes and their operating systems Question: What other folders should be added to steps 1-4? And I think adding a Note to ensure that all ceph folders are backed up. 2) As per the inputs from one who had done this procedure previously that user will have to run chown -R /etc/ceph chown -R /var/log/ceph chown -R /var/lib/ceph on all nodes once os upgrade is complete Question: Where should this be added? Perhaps as a new section 1.6.7. Changing ownership of folders? 4) [RFE] Swap sections 4.4 and 4.5 as it current 4.4 is more related to 4.6 Question: Please confirm the order since these section numbers have changed. Is this the correct order? 1.4. Backing up the files before the host OS upgrade 1.5. Converting to a containerized deployment Thanks very much! Lynn

Restoring the backup files. > 4) [RFE] Swap sections 4.4 and 4.5 as it current 4.4 is more related to 4.6 > > Question: > Please confirm the order since these section numbers have changed. Converting to a containerized deployment Yes, the order should be Backing file and then converting to containerized. I hope that answers your question, let me know if there are more question. Thanks, Aditya
