Created attachment 1872705 [details]
overwrite description changes

Description of problem:
sometimes the component name is wrong or just left empty. Then you spend some time writing a meaningful description, press the submit button, only to find out the component must be added.

When you add the component, a warning message appears that the desription will be cleared. In my case i did not get it form that message what is the description that will be cleared but anyway, why is the description cleared just by adding the component ? Sounds wrong to me. I know for a fact that after the ticket is created, the component name can still be changed.

Comment 1 Jeff Fearn 🐞 2022-04-18 23:31:01 UTC
This happens because each component can have a different template for the bug description. It should only do this if the component switched to uses a different template than the original template completed.

Comment 2 cornel panceac 2022-04-23 13:15:36 UTC
Then maybe the easy thing to do is prevent completing Description before a valid component is selected?

Comment 3 Jeff Fearn 🐞 2022-08-08 01:34:09 UTC
On QA server.

- Click 'New' in menu to start bug creation
- Pick any product
- On bug creation page - description is disabled and has the placeholder text:

"Components can have different reporting requirements, therefore you must select a component before entering a description"

- Select a component - Bug template for component is loaded
- Edit description
- Change component - "This will overwrite your changes in the description. Continue?" message is displayed.
