Some metrics are currently available only via ovs-appctl.

Examples: ovs-appctl dpctl/show or ovs-appctl upcall/show

These contain useful information that could be used by layered applications to monitor OVS performance.

However, they are exposed in an unstable format. The proposal of this RFE is to expose them via the OVSDB like other statistics. Maybe a "statistics" of the "Datapath" table
