Description Sankarshan Mukhopadhyay 2006-10-31 07:23:26 EST
Description of problem:

For a package which has binary RPMs in repositories as well as source tarballs,
doing yum update package-name within the directory which is the unpackaged
tarball leads to yum not resolving repos but trying the .h and .c files

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 3.0

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Untar ipw3945 source tarball (say)
2. Change directory to the ipw3945
3. With proper repos configured (in this case freshrpms) do yum update ipw3945

Actual results:

yum ignores repos and reads ipw3945.c and .h files and does not install. Change
dir to an upper level and the same command works

Expected results:

yum should download the ipw3945 RPMs and install

Could you give me a cut and paste of the output you're seeing and the command
you're running? I'm a little confused as to how this is happening.

thanks

escape the *

yum install ipw3945\*

otherwise the shell is expanding out your command to:
yum install ipw3945.c ipw3945_daemon.h ipw3945.h ipw3945.ko ipw3945.mod.c
ipw3945.mod.o ipw3945.o ipw3945.o.lst

Thanks that helps. Cheers
