system was originally built as FC6T3 and then continually upgraded.
problem started presenting @ FC6T3 and continues.
system is behind a firewall and a websense appliance.
system is running under VMware

disabled extras-development repo in /etc/yum.repo.d/fedora-extras-development.repo
