Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Benjamin Kielhold 2023-03-23 20:25:53 UTC
Greetings,

1. Proposed title of this feature request:

[RFE] Command, `satellite-maintain maintenance-mode status` to provide a more verbose output

2. What is the nature and description of the request?:

The provided output from the command, `satellite-maintain maintenance-mode status` isn't always clear and it would be preferred that the output be more explicit in what specifically has been found or presented to the user/admin.

3. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here):

It is being requested to allow for better understanding of the maintenance-mode state and everything included with that which will also assist admins who operate/maintain the Satellite server.

4. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here):

When the command is executed, `satellite-maintain maintenance-mode status` the output is more verbose for each line item and goes into more detail as to what is specifically occurring or needs to occur to address items. An example could be if maintenance-mode is set to on, then when this is output to the user, it will share when this was set and/or what specifically set this to on.

5. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.

Can be tested by initiating maintenance-mode to on for the Satellite server and then running status to verify it shows that it was set to on @ X date/time via X command.

6. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?

Was unable to directly locate one for this specific request.

7. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies and which release would they like to target (i.e. RHEL8, RHEL9)?

     Future release of satellite.

8. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?

     No.

9. List any affected packages or components.

     Foreman-maintain

10. Would the customer be able to assist in testing this functionality if implemented?

     Yes.

Please let me know if there are any clarifications needed or questions on the request above.

Regards,
Benjamin Kielhold

In /var/log/foreman-maintain/foreman-maintain.log you can find the time the maintenance mode was started. Given that, and that we do not intend to add audit capturing such as which user started it I am opting to close this RFE. RHEL auditing tools (https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/html/security_hardening/auditing-the-system_security-hardening#doc-wrapper) should be able to give you the information around who started it should you need it.

I, [2023-10-05 12:38:27+0000 #45097] INFO -- : --- Execution step 'Add maintenance_mode tables/chain to nftables/iptables' [enable-maintenance-mode] started ---
