This bug has been migrated to another issue tracking site. It has been closed here and may no longer be being monitored.

If you would like to get updates for this issue, or to participate in it, you may do so at Red Hat Issue Tracker .
Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description dprabhu 2023-04-19 16:50:35 UTC
Description of problem:

- When we attach any ansible role to the hosts directly than in Hosts ==> All hosts ==> Click on any hostname ==> Under Ansible tab ==> It shows the source of the ansible role as "Directly assigned to Host" which is correct.

- For example if the "theforeman.foreman_scap_client" role is attached to the host directly it will show the source as "Directly assigned to Host", but when we attach the host group to that host and if the host group have the same ansible role assigned "the foreman.foreman_scap_client" then it shows "theforeman.foreman_scap_client" role assigned twice which is the correct one is directly and one it inherited from host group, but the source is shown incorrect, it shows the source of both roles as "Inherited from Hostgroup"

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:

1. On Red Hat Satellite 6.12 register the host and attach any ansible role to it directly.

Satellite webui: Hosts ==> All hosts ==> Click on hostname ==> Edit ==> In Ansible tab attach any role for example "theforeman.foreman_scap_client"

2. Then check the attached role by navigating as below:

Satellite webui: Hosts ==> All hosts ==> Click on hostname ==> Click on Ansible tab ==> View all assigned roles ==> It will show the "theforeman.foreman_scap_client" role assigned directly to the host

3. Do not remove the "theforeman.foreman_scap_client" role attached to the host.

4. Now create the host group and configure it with the same ansible role "theforeman.foreman_scap_client"

5. Then assign that host group to the host.

6. So now the host will inherit the ansible role from the host group. Check the ansible roles assigned by navigating to below again:

Satellite webui: Hosts ==> All hosts ==> Click on hostname ==> Click on Ansible tab ==> View all assigned roles ==> It will show the "theforeman.foreman_scap_client" role assigned twice but with the same source "Inherited from Hostgroup" which creates confusion

Actual results:

The ansible role attached directly to the host and the same role inherited from the host group shows the source as "inherited from Hostgroup"

Expected results:

The ansible roles attached directly to the host and the same roles inherited from the host group should show the source correctly, as one inherited from hostgroup should show "inherited from Hostgroup" and other attached to the host manually should show "Directly assigned to Host".
