Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Leonid Kanter 2023-04-21 19:06:53 UTC
Description of problem:

Russian translation of some package group names is incorrect. It looks like someone used machine translation without the context.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start installation, select Russian language
2. On package selection tab, scroll through available package groups
3.

Actual results:

Some groups are translated incorrectly. Examples:

Group id "nfv" translated as "ВСЕДОРОЖНИК", that means "all terrain vehicle" in English. It has nothing with Network Function Virtualisation

Group id rpm-development-tools, translated as "Инструменты разработки оборотов оборотов". "Оборотов" means "revolutions", from rpm - revolutions per minute. It's confusing and have nothing with package management.

Group id "headless-management", translated as "Безголовое управление". It sounds like "stupid management" in Russian, I would suggest something like "Управление системами без графической консоли"

Expected results:

Better translation

Additional info:

It's hanging around since RHEL8 https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/release-engineering/comps/-/blob/c8s/comps-centos-stream-8.xml

Hi Leonid,

Unfortunately we do not have a Russian speaking translator available now, however we can definitely fix this issue.

Please what translation would you suggest for the following:

"NFV"

"RPM Development Tools"

"Headless Management"

Thank you

Hi Ludek

Suggested translations follow

"NFV" - same as original, "NFV", nobody translate it.

"RPM Development Tools" - "Инструменты разработки RPM"

"Headless Management" - "Управление системами без графической консоли"

Hi Leonid,

I have received the Russian PO file. There are few fuzzy strings and one untranslated. I think it's a good opportunity to have the Russian translation complete. Please could you check out the following translations as well? Thank you

Fuzzy or missing translation:

RHEL for Realtime packages. RHEL для пакетов в реальном времени.

These packages include servers for old network protocols such as telnet. Эти пакеты включают серверы таких устаревших протоколов, как rsh и telnet.

Image based rpm-ostree support Пакеты, обязательные для поддержки острия

Tools used for building RPMs, such as rpmbuild.

Common NetworkManager submodules Общие подмодули NetworkManager

This group contains NetworkManager submodules that are commonly used, but may not be wanted in some streamlined configurations. Эта группа содержит подмодули NetworkManager, которые обычно используются, но могут быть нежелательны в некоторых упрощенных конфигурациях.

Minimal host installation Минимальная установка хоста

Hi Ludek,

Translations follow

"RHEL for Realtime packages"
"Пакеты RHEL для режима реального времени"

"These packages include servers for old network protocols such as telnet."
"Эти пакеты включают серверы для устаревших сетевых протоколов, таких как telnet."

"Image based rpm-ostree support"
"Поддержка образов rpm-ostree"

"Tools used for building RPMs, such as rpmbuild."
"Инструменты для сборки пакетов RPM, такие как rpmbuild"

"Common NetworkManager submodules"
"Общие подмодули NetworkManager"

"This group contains NetworkManager submodules that are commonly used, but may not be wanted in some streamlined configurations."
"Эта группа содержит подмодули NetworkManager, которые обычно используются, но могут быть нежелательны в некоторых упрощенных конфигурациях."

"Minimal host installation"
"Минимальная установка хоста"

BTW, I reviewed centos8 translations again and there are two extremely stupid messages:

must be

Пакеты, необходимые для поддержки острия.

must be

Пакеты, необходимые для поддержки ostree.

Could you search for words "острия" or "Острия" and fix it if found? FYI this word means "cutting edge" in Russian and have nothing common with ostree packaging system. If I were you, I would track down the submitter and never allow him or her to submit translations in the future.

Thank you so much for your help, Leonid.

I have added your translation into the PO file.

>

> must be
>

This was the only one I could not find in the PO I had available. No mention of "Atomic Host" there.

I am sending the updated PO back to the team.

Comment 13 RHEL Program Management 2023-09-14 13:55:47 UTC
Issue migration from Bugzilla to Jira is in process at this time. This will be the last message in Jira copied from the Bugzilla bug.

Comment 14 RHEL Program Management 2023-09-14 13:56:58 UTC
This BZ has been automatically migrated to the issues.redhat.com Red Hat Issue Tracker. All future work related to this report will be managed there.

Due to differences in account names between systems, some fields were not replicated. Be sure to add yourself to Jira issue's "Watchers" field to continue receiving updates and add others to the "Need Info From" field to continue requesting information.

To find the migrated issue, look in the "Links" section for a direct link to the new issue location. The issue key will have an icon of 2 footprints next to it, and begin with "RHEL-" followed by an integer. You can also find this issue by visiting https://issues.redhat.com/issues/?jql= and searching the "Bugzilla Bug" field for this BZ's number, e.g. a search like:

"Bugzilla Bug" = 1234567

In the event you have trouble locating or viewing this issue, you can file an issue by sending mail to rh-issues. You can also visit https://access.redhat.com/articles/7032570 for general account information.
