Description Guilherme Covolo 2023-06-05 12:39:08 UTC
- Description of problem:

Include all (regular) files found in DIRECTORY that match the regular expression REGEX in the @@include function

- Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Add the function @@include the option to read directories that was implemented in version 0.17.

- How reproducible:

Update the aide package version to 0.17 or backport the commits that introduce the feature (that starts in upstream commit e686d7b6)

https://github.com/aide/aide/commit/e686d7b6b11f8ab5bf59a7cb4acc1bff87b60383

- Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install RHEL 9.2
2. Install Aide
3. Configure using files found in DIRECTORY that match the regular expression REGEX in the @@include function.

- Actual results:

It is not possible to set directories using the @@include function.

- Expected results:

Configure directories using the @@include function.

- Additional info:

1. Proposed title of this feature request

Upgrade AIDE to 0.18 (latest version) or include directories using @@include function

2. What is the nature and description of the request?

Include all (regular) files found in DIRECTORY that match the regular expression REGEX in the @@include function.

The functionality for @@include to read directories was implemented in version 0.17.

3. Why do you need it? (List the business requirements here)

Better configuration management. It will be easier to distribute configuration files that apply to specific machines / environments without affecting the distributed aide configuration files.

4. How would you like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)

Update the aide package version to 0.18 or back port the commits that introduce the feature (that starts in upstream commit e686d7b6)

https://github.com/aide/aide/commit/e686d7b6b11f8ab5bf59a7cb4acc1bff87b60383

5. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and you can test to confirm that the requirement was successfully implemented.

If the package is upgraded to version 0.18 or the patch series to provide the feature is back ported, then AIDE users will be able to use the directory include for configuration files.

6. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?

I haven't found any RFE filled for Fedora or RHEL in Bugzilla.

7. Do you have any specific timeline dependencies and which version would he like to target (ie RHEL8, RHEL9)?

Customer expects it being supported in RHEL8 and RHEL9.

8. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?

No

9. List any affected packages or components.

RHEL9: aide-0.16-100.el9

10. Would you be able to help with testing this functionality if implemented?

Customer can do validation tests if we provide the package.
