An empty live patching package will be installed when there are no live patches available for a given kernel. An empty live patching package will have a kpatch_version-kpatch_release of 0-0, for example kpatch-patch-5_14_0-1-0-0.x86_64.rpm. The installation of the empty RPM subscribes the system to all future live patches for the given kernel. I have noticed that customers have habit to check installed kpatches using kpatch list. However, empty kpatch will not be present/listed in the output of kpatch list. And hence, it can confuse customers that even after installing the kpatch-patch package, it is not listed under 'kpatch list' output. Can we please add a one liner note at the end of this note that: Empty kpatches will not be recorded under output of 'kpatch list'. Presence of empty kpatch can be checked using '#rpm -qa | grep kpatch' command. Example from the test machine: # uname -r 5.14.0-284.25.1.el9_2.x86_64 # kpatch list Loaded patch modules: Installed patch modules: # rpm -qa | grep kpatch kpatch-dnf-0.4-3.el9.noarch kpatch-0.9.7-2.el9.noarch kpatch-patch-5_14_0-284_25_1-0-0.el9_2.x86_64 Reported by: rhn-support-aratnapa https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/9/html/managing_monitoring_and_updating_the_kernel/applying-patches-with-kernel-live-patching_managing-monitoring-and-updating-the-kernel#annotations:349cdfbc-3794-4a8c-bd82-5da8b16ca8f5
