Description Aznar 2007-04-04 05:01:18 EDT
Description of problem: When I'm trying to listen to a MP3 stream on
www.jamendo.com (free (beer and speach) music), Noatun crashes when trying to
read the flux.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): I don't know,
can't find but I'm using Fedora 7 KDE test3

How reproducible:
everytime I'm trying to listen a song on www.jamendo.com

Steps to Reproduce:
1.go on the web site
2.go on an artiste jackett
3.try to listen
Actual results: Noatun crashes, the KDE Crash Handler starts

Expected results: Noatun should nwarn us it can't handle MP3 format
Comment 1 Matthew Miller 2007-04-10 11:53:10 EDT
Bulk message: Fedora 7 test bugs should be filed against "devel", not against
test1/2/3. This isn't obvious, I know. Moving this report so it isn't lost.
Comment 2 Rex Dieter 2007-04-30 14:21:32 EDT
yeah, fedora's kde packaging doesn't *do* mp3, so we shouldn't let noatun think
it can, then crash.

I'll take a look and see if we can get this fixed.

In short, I plan on stripping out nonfree codecs from all kdemultimedia's
.desktop files, including:

fwiw, here's the complete list in

and for completeness, compare/contrast:

As pointed out in irc by a fedora-ninja in #fedora-devel:
[15:45] <notting> rdieter: um, shouldn't it just 'not crash'? :)
[15:45] <rdieter> notting: that too, of course.
[15:45] <notting> rdieter: what else is in the desktop file?
[15:46] <rdieter> I'll post the complete mimetype list in the bug in a sec...
[15:46] <notting> rdieter: note that we include those in (for example) totem and
rb, and let the app sort it out

Based on the date this bug was created, it appears to have been reported
against rawhide during the development of a Fedora release that is no
longer maintained. In order to refocus our efforts as a project we are
flagging all of the open bugs for releases which are no longer
maintained. If this bug remains in NEEDINFO thirty (30) days from now,
we will automatically close it.

If you can reproduce this bug in a maintained Fedora version (7, 8, or
rawhide), please change this bug to the respective version and change
the status to ASSIGNED. (If you're unable to change the bug's version
or status, add a comment to the bug and someone will change it for you.)

Thanks for your help, and we apologize again that we haven't handled
these issues to this point.

The process we're following is outlined here:

We will be following the process here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping to ensure this
doesn't happen again.
