Description Serge Droz 2007-05-06 15:58:55 EDT
Description of problem:

No sound using alsa.

starting xmms I get

>xmms
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:831:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC semaphore

** WARNING **: alsa_setup(): Failed to open pcm device (default): Permission denied
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:831:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC semaphore

** WARNING **: alsa_setup(): Failed to open pcm device (default): Permission denied

Choosing the oss output plugin works, so does alsamixer and system-config-soundcard.

xmms used to work fine using alsa.

Comment 1 Martin Stransky 2007-05-07 01:58:19 EDT
Please attach /root/scsconfig.log (can be created by system-config-soundcard,
check the "System" page)
Comment 2 Serge Droz 2007-05-07 15:40:51 EDT
The "bug" disappeared after adding the lines
defaults.pcm.card 0
defaults.pcm.device 4
defaults.ctl.card 0
to /etc/asound.conf _and_ rebooting.

Sorry for the false alarm
Comment 3 Martin Stransky 2007-05-09 07:27:47 EDT
