John Linville, John Masters and I were discussing bug #237990 which is about updating the ipw3945 wireless driver in 5.1. In the course of that discussion I questioned whether there should be a similar update to ipw2xxx - to which JohnL suggested we should. So, upon that request I am creating this bz to track it (without any specific detail on the merits of what is in the update).
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux maintenance release. Product Management has requested further review of this request by Red Hat Engineering, for potential inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Update release for currently deployed products. This request is not yet committed for inclusion in an Update release.
Should this be limited exclusively to "brandable" versions? Or are upstream versions (w/ the accompanying fixes) good enough?
RHEL5 test kernels w/ ipw2x00 updates available here: http://people.redhat.com/linville/kernels/rhel5/ Anyone care to give them a try? :-)
Withholding QE ack until we get some testing feedback.
A couple of days of use on two laptops (one ipw2100, one ipw2200) gives me confidence in the backports...
