Description of problem: Wi-Fi doesn't work anymore, the NIC fails to obtain an address on the PCIe bus at boot time. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): linux-firmware-20260810-1.fc44.noarch How reproducible: Boot up the computer Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot up the computer 2. Verify that there are no SSIDs visible in KDE's network settings 3. Check for failures in dmesg's output: [ 8.268717] ath12k_wifi7_pci 0000:0d:00.0: BAR 0 [??? 0x00000000 flags 0x20000000]: can't assign; bogus alignment [ 8.268720] ath12k_wifi7_pci 0000:0d:00.0: failed to assign pci resource: -22 [ 8.268721] ath12k_wifi7_pci 0000:0d:00.0: failed to claim device: -22 [ 8.268735] ath12k_wifi7_pci 0000:0d:00.0: probe with driver ath12k_wifi7_pci failed with error -22 Actual results: No SSIDs visible in the network menu. Expected results: The Wi-Fi NIC should be functional and nearby networks visible in the Wi-Fi menu Additional info: In all fairness, it may have stopped working with a former release. Using Ethernet, I don't check this menu so often. I just did because I had a temporary problem with Bluetooth. Resizable BAR and Above 4G decoding are already enabled in the UEFI as they were before. The Bluetooth part of the controller works, because it uses USB. The NIC is still listed in lspci : 0d:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc WCN785x Wi-Fi 7(802.11be) 320MHz 2x2 [FastConnect 7800] (rev 01)
Why do you think this is firmware and not a regression in the kernel? Please report details of the kernel you are using and the versions of kernel and firmware when it was working and when it stopped working.
(In reply to Peter Robinson from comment #1) > Why do you think this is firmware and not a regression in the kernel? > > Please report details of the kernel you are using and the versions of kernel > and firmware when it was working and when it stopped working. I'm on kernel 7.1.12-200.fc44.x86_64. A ticket describing an issue close to mine (#2365882) says that it came from the firmware package. Finding the exact release and confirming whether the kernel is involved will take some time, but I've planned on installing a test OS on another drive and downgrading each of those to narrow down the origin of the problem. I'll keep you updated.
I tested different kernel releases and downgraded the firmware. Admittedly, the firmware version doesn't play a role in there. The wireless NIC works until 7.0.14, and doesn't starting at 7.1.2. In-between builds are deleted from Koji, so I was unfortunately unable to test them, but that quite narrows it down already.
if you could attach a full dmesg of 7.1.2 it might be useful
Created attachment 2156780 [details] dmesg output with kernel 7.1.2 Here it is
