Lilo is unable to create a boot image using the kernel installed from the
kernel-smp-2.2.17-14.i686.rpm recommended by Redhat.
I get the following error:

Reading boot sector from /dev/sda
Merging with /boot/boot.b
Mapping message file /boot/message
Boot image: /boot/vmlinux-2.2.17-14smp
Fatal: Kernel /boot/vmlinux-2.2.17-14smp is too big

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install kernel-ibcs-2.2.17-14.i386.rpm
2. Install kernel-pcmcia-cs-2.2.17-14.i386.rpm
3. Install kernel-source-2.2.17-14.i386.rpm
4. Install kernel-smp-2.2.17-14.i686.rpm
5. Modify lilo.conf and execute /sbin/lilo -v

Actual Results: /sbin/lilo -v

Lilo expected to rebuild boot map.

This is a security related patch so I'm hoping that I"m doing something
dumb here.

Thanks for the help!
John

you're pointing lilo at the wrong file; you want to point
it at /boot/vmlinuz-<version>
