Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 312271
Sound problem for Acer Aspire 5050
Last modified: 2008-02-25 10:36:15 EST
Description of problem:
I have new laptop (Acer Aspire 5052) which is not well configured. I'm not able
to extract sound from it, until manually add probe_mask=1,position_fix=1 to
modprobe.conf as options of snd_hda_intel.
However in F7 it was probe_mask=3.
Audio Configuration utility is not able to give any sound. KDE control center -
only aftrer setting audio device to OSS.
After that to get sound I'm forced to bring up SURROUND in mixer, as it seems to
be MASTER for that card.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Steps to Reproduce:
I think scsconf.log would be enough as info

KDE control center: Alsa is not working, Threaded OSS working, but with big gaps
in time (0.5 second playing, 0.5 sec empty). The same behaviour is in F7

Automatic card detection is also not working
Working from box in F8, but channels in mixer are still swapped.
So in F8, the card works but "Master" does not control the volume?
Exactly, however it was the same in F7, but to make it work it was necessary to
put probe_mask=3 into modprobe.
As I wrote - "Surround" controls master channel. Rest of them seems to control
nothing. I didn't check for microphone and any other kind of input.
For a laptop speakers: only "Surround" channel has affect.
When I plug in headphones - no effect (no switching sound from speakers to
headphones, until: "Front" channel is switched on, then "PCM" has effect of main
Laptop speakers in that case should be manually switched off by switching off
