In the laptop install, after boot-disk creation (which was skipped),
anaconda encountered an exception:

Yeah, Bill fixed this a week or so ago.

I assume this was not yet in public rawhide then (as of yesterday)?

Right.  Rawhide hasn't been updated in a week or so.
