This exact system was running Slackware SMP 2.0.36 with no

RedHat Linux kernel 2.2.5-22smp also 2.2.5-15smp will lock
up at various times.  This can be reproduced easily by
installing and running Microlite's Backup Edge software.  By
loading down the system by doing a tape backup the system
will lock within 5-10 minutes.  When running the
uniprocessor versions of the same kernels the backups will

The system will also lockup durring system shutdown and GNU
desktop logouts and reboots.  The system never shows the
problem in a single processor configuration.

Our harware includes: an ASUS Dual Processor System Board, 2
Intel Pentium 133MHz Processors (both are the same step and
such), 192MB RAM, 1 DPT EISA SCSI SmartRaid III Controller
with 32MB RAM, 1 Trident 8900 1MB VGA Display Adapter, 1
3Com Network Card, SCSI SureDat 8, SCSI Toshiba CD-ROM, 3
Micropolis 4110 Drive configured in a RAID5 veiwed as a
single 2+MB Dirve.
