Description of problem: Did an auto-upgrade on the security update. Apparently an updated kernel is in. When I'm not connected to the internet desktop items take minutes to open. When I am connected to the internet, response time is immediate. Any idea? Booting stalls at CUPS and sendmail for up to 10 minutes. Just to clear things up, what makes you think initng is responsible for this behaviour? You say it started when updating the kernel, seems more to me like a problem with the kernel... Anyway, is there any more information you could provide? Anything that seems relevant in /var/log/messages? What does a ngstatus after startup say?
