Description Michal Jaegermann 2008-01-09 20:34:26 UTC
Description of problem:

An update to 1.4.99.1-0.15.20080107.fc9 has the following
effects:
.....
(EE) module ABI major version (3) doesn't match the server's version (4)
(II) UnloadModule: "radeon"
(II) Unloading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers//radeon_drv.so
(EE) Failed to load module "radeon" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
(II) LoadModule: "mouse"

(II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/input//mouse_drv.so
(II) Module mouse: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
        compiled for 1.4.0.1, module version = 1.2.3
        Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 2.0
(II) LoadModule: "kbd"

(II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/input//kbd_drv.so
(II) Module kbd: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
        compiled for 1.4.0.1, module version = 1.2.2
        Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 2.0
(EE) No drivers available.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Backing that to xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.4.99.1-0.13.fc9 restores
working X.

Error mesages and some tidbits from "rawhide report: 20080109 changes"
suggests that all driver modules require rebuilding for a new ABI
but the same "rawhide report" is silent about possible breakage.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.4.99.1-0.15.20080107.fc9

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided
above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful
in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log
file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file
attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below.

Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf whatsoever and
let X11 autodetect your display and video card? Attach to this bug
/var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt as well, please.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

Comment 2 Michal Jaegermann 2008-01-11 20:36:50 UTC
Fixed, in a sense, after xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.4.99.1-0.15.20080107.fc9
_and_ xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.7.196-6.fc9 were installed.

OTOH now other programs started to get

The error was 'BadName (named color or font does not exist)'.
  (Details: serial 257 error_code 15 request_code 45 minor_code 0)

The error was 'BadName (named color or font does not exist)'.
  (Details: serial 8972 error_code 15 request_code 45 minor_code 0)

while previously this was not the case. For example,
bug 428466 and bug 428467.
