Description of problem:

The DISPLAY variable is unset in prep, build, and install, but not check.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
redhat-rpm-config-9.0.1-1.fc8

What does %check actually do?

What ever you want, but generally it runs tests to make sure the software works.
 If it fails, the rpms do not get built.
