Description of problem: Automatic detection of the sound card did not work. 
This audio device will not be available on the system.

Yes, PA doesn't work if it is not started. Please trigger the ESD checkbox in
the gnome sound capplet, and relogin. Alternatively you can start PA on the
command line via "pulseaudio -D".
