Steps to Reproduce:
1.Close session with gkrellm running on desktop
2.Login
3.
  
Actual results:
gkrellm display appears on desktop but nothing else loads until it is closed. 
After closing panel icons appear but are inactive.

Expected results:
Desktop to load with gkrellm being last component.

Additional info:
Other desktop icons may be active before a panel icon is clicked, but they are
not once you have touched a panel icon.

KDE 4 version: 4.0.4

Pebcak.  Caused by inappropriate editing of a config file.  Closing as 
not-a-bug.
