After every reboot, when I log in (XFCE), the size of the letters under the desktop icons is much smaller than usually. However, the proper size of those letters is restored as soon as I log out and I log in again (and not rebooting).
In addition: $ rpm -q qgtkstyle qgtkstyle-0.0-0.2.20080719svn693.fc8.i386 $ Paul
Sorry, wanted to mean the following: $ rpm -q qgtkstyle qgtkstyle-0.0-0.2.20080719svn693.fc9.i386 $ Paal
silly question, what does XFCE desktop icons have to do with qgtkstyle?
I am not able of answering your question, but it is a fact that, without qgtkstyle and the qt packages available at the Koji website, the reported problem does not exist. Are you suggesting that I should report this bug in the XFCE component? Paul
Imo, yes, unless some direct evidence is found to link the gtk-based xfce desktop rendering to qgtkstyle.
Why WONTFIX? Reopening...
Kevin, Because I followed Rex advice: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457111 Paul
Uh, I think one bug report is enough, we have to talk to each other here to track it down. I'll close the other as a duplicate.

What are your settings under 'Settings -> Desktop Settings -> Behavior' ? Icon size? Use System font? Custom Font size? Does this same thing happen to a brand new user account?
My guess is that this is caused by gnome-settings-daemon or some other xsettings daemon.

> My guess is that this is caused by gnome-settings-daemon or some other > xsettings daemon. Perhaps, you are right, as the bug only shows up if, before the reboot, I login with GNOME, then logout and login again but with XFCE. Without a previous GNOME login, the bug stays hidden. Paul
in reply to comment #15: ok, can you: reboot login with Gnome. logout control-alt-f1 to get to a text vty login as root ps -auxww | grep settings and see if the gnome-settings-daemon is still running? If so, perhaps it's a bug that it doesn't exit when you logout...

Thanks, Kevin. The command 'ps -auxww | grep settings' did not return gnome-settings-daemon as being still running, but the command did mention /etc/nm-system-settings.conf Any further ideas? Paul
well, I still suspect it's some settings management leftover from the gnome login. Can you try doing: - boot - ps -axuww - login to gnome - logout - ps -axuww and see what processes are new in the second ps? Should also be able to see the ones that started right at the time you logged into gnome?

Sorry for the delay here. I don't see anything in those 2 ps outputs... you say they are BOOT1 and BOOT2... were those the places that I suggested you should run the ps? should just be one boot, ps, then login and out of gnome and another ps. Also, can you expand on your comment #4 ? If you remove the qgtkstyle and qt packages the problem goes away? This is a F9 machine? i386? you are using KDM as your display manager? Thanks for the info.

I followed the steps that you suggested: - boot - ps -axuww (here BOOT1) - login to gnome - logout - ps -axuww (here BOOT2) > Also, can you expand on your comment #4 ? > If you remove the qgtkstyle and qt packages the problem goes away? Yes, apparently. > This is a F9 machine? i386? you are using KDM as your display manager? Yes, I am running an i386 F9 machine with KDM as display manager. Let me add something else: once, I noticed the problem without having entered a Gnome session. Paul
We are not sure if it is related to KDM or your Xfce session. Can you try with a "fresh" session by rm -rf ~/.cache/session' and rm -rf .config/xfce4-session/ from a console before you login?
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 10 development cycle. Changing version to '10'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Hey Paul. Can you try the suggestion made by Christoph in comment #22 please and let us know the results?
(In reply to comment #24) > Hey Paul. Can you try the suggestion made by Christoph in comment #22 please > and let us know the results? Sorry, Kevin, for the delay with which I am replying, but I have been recently so busy, so busy... I do not know why, but since I upgraded to F10, I can only login in XFCE sessions; I cannot login neither in a KDE session nor in a GNOME one. So, I cannot reproduce the bug anymore. Any ideas? Some more details: I am using XFCE and KDM, and the Circles theme as login window. Paul
> Sorry, Kevin, for the delay with which I am replying, but I have been recently > so busy, so busy... I know the feeling. ;) So, What happens when you try and login to Gnome or KDE? Can you select KDE or Gnome after selecting your username? Does it just take you back to the login screen? After attempting to login to KDE or Gnome, can you do 'control-alt-f2' and login as root on the vty, and cp the ~username/.xsession-errors file to something, then go back and attach that file to this bug? This is drifting off into another bug it seems like... does the orig issue of small letters still affect you or need attention?
(In reply to comment #26) > I know the feeling. ;) :-) But, in spite of having been very busy, I feel the duty to cooperate with Fedora Linux improvement. > So, What happens when you try and login to Gnome or KDE? Can you > select KDE or Gnome after selecting your username? > > Does it just take you back to the login screen? I was using KDM and the KDE Circles theme for the Login Window. After having changed to a different theme, I could log in a KDE session or GNOME session. Before, I was always led to a XFCE session, even if I had KDE or GNOME selected. Now I am also using GDM. I suspect that the problem is related to the KDE Circle theme. In which section of bugzilla should I file a bug? > does the orig issue of small letters still affect you or need > attention? After having upgraded from F9 to F10, I noticed the problem only once. I suspect that even this issue is related to KDE Circles theme. I have just tried to reproduce the bug of the small letters, but it has not showed up. Hope this helps you, Paul
Well, I don't understand how the Circle theme could have caused the small fonts in Xfce. ;( So, there are a number of issues here and we are loosing focus. To recap: 1. Bug where you login to Gnome, then Xfce, and Xfce fonts are small. This only happened once and you can no longer reproduce it? 2. Bug where you could only login to Xfce via KDM. This seems to be fixed by changing the theme? If you are unable to reproduce problem #1, and lots of things have changed so you can't go back and set everything the same way, I would say we should just close this bug. You can re-open or file a new one if it happens again. For problem #2, perhaps file a new bug against "kdebase-workspace" as thats the package that has kdm in it. Does that sound good?
(In reply to comment #28) Thanks, Kevin. > So, there are a number of issues here and we are loosing focus. To recap: > > 1. Bug where you login to Gnome, then Xfce, and Xfce fonts are small. I agree with you, Kevin: the bug should be closed. In case, it shows up again, I will re-open this bug. Paul
ok. Please do re-open and file new bugs on the new issues! thanks.
