This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 10 development cycle.
Changing version to '10'.

Are you still seeing this?  If so, can you run new-kernel-pkg with sh -x ?

Does not happen in Fedora 10 kernel- and mkinitrd-6.0.71-4.fc10.i386.
