Description Pete Zaitcev 2008-09-06 04:48:52 UTC
Description of problem:

After a "yum update", the Control-SPACE does not work, and a click
into SCIM icon in the panel does nothing (used to bring up a list
of input methods: Anthy and Russian/Translit are enabled). The
/var/log/yum.log shows that scim-tables and scim-tables-russian
were updated in this update.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

scim-1.4.7-31.fc10.x86_64
scim-anthy-1.2.4-4.fc9.x86_64
scim-bridge-gtk-0.4.15-6.fc10.x86_64

scim-bridge-0.4.15-6.fc10.x86_64
scim-bridge-0.4.13-4.fc8.i386
scim-qtimm-0.9.4-10.fc9.x86_64
scim-qtimm-0.9.4-10.fc9.i386
scim-libs-1.4.7-31.fc10.x86_64
scim-libs-1.4.7-31.fc10.i386
scim-gtk-1.4.7-31.fc10.x86_64
scim-tables-0.5.8-7.fc10.x86_64
scim-tables-russian-0.5.8-7.fc10.x86_64

How reproducible:

100% on this given system

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log in
2. Make sure SCIM icon is visible in the panel
3. Open gnome-terminal
4. Hit Control-Space.

Actual results:

No input method.

Expected results:

Input method window.

Preparing testing environment.

Comment 2 Caius Chance 2008-09-08 07:15:45 UTC
The followings are what I have done to get it works:

0a. After your yum update, reboot the system.
0b. Ensure yum groupinstall chinese-support is done.
1. yum install im-chooser.
2. Alt-F2 > gnome-terminal > im-chooser.
3. Enable SCIM > logout.
4. Reboot the system.
5. Login to Gnome and the SCIM should be working.

How about if fresh installation of latest (most recent bootable) rawhide?

Could you try:

-`yum install im-chooser`
- Alt-F2
- gnome-terminal
- im-chooser
- Enable SCIM
- relogin

if that works?

BTW, which locale are you using?

Please also kindly provide `imsettings-info` output, thanks a lot.

Comment 6 Pete Zaitcev 2008-09-10 03:24:35 UTC
This problem was resolved without an update to SCIM. It was a problem
in GNOME. Many applications behave in a weird way, apparently.
