stdout of dmesg

Description of problem:
This is a followup on bug 464294 this time in Rawhide. I actually could make connection working (yuhuuuu!!!), unfortunately only very short distance (like 5 m or so), much shorter distance than what I could do with the same computer and the same wifi card (and ndiswrapper) under F8.

Is there any hope that my wife wouldn't have to sit on the ground in a hallway (which is the only place I get the connection right now), but could move to the kitchen and to the table ?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.6.27-0.392.rc8.git7.fc10.i686

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.get connection to the WEP encrypted wifi network
2.
3.

Actual results:
works only on very short distance (3m?) and is very brittle

Expected results:
solid as a rock in all reasonable distances (or at least in all places, where other wifis get the connection).

Honestly, there have been very few b43 changes to 2.6.27 in months -- and none of those look likely to cause this sort of problem. Ditto for the rate scaling algorithms. Are you 100% positive that there is nothing wrong with the hardware itself?

Could you try manually setting a lower rate?

   iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M fixed

Does that improve the reliability? Feel free to try something lower (e.g. 5.5M) as well.

Didn't help (as noticed on IRC), but in meantime it sometimes works -- will investigate further and let you know.

Comment 3 Matěj Cepl 2008-11-25 14:18:26 UTC
Hmm, more or less works. Will reopen if necessary.
