Description Muayyad Alsadi 2008-10-11 19:54:59 UTC
Description of problem:
the standards say the the desktop folder is the one pointed by ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs
to be the value of XDG_DESKTOP_DIR
as the folder assigned to be the desktop is translatable

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xfdesktop-4.4.2-3.fc9

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install a fedora with gnome (or KDE) in any language other than English (so that Desktop is not called Desktop)
2. login to gnome/kde so that that folder is created
3. logout
4. login into xfce

Actual results:
the desktop shown is the ~/Desktop not the localized folder
Expected results:
the folder pointed by XDG_DESKTOP_DIR in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs

Comment 1 Kevin Fenzi 2008-10-11 20:58:01 UTC
Xfce upstream has no support for XDG user dirs (yet). ;(

However, happily we have a patch for f10 that will work and hopefully do the right thing. Can you retest on rawhide?

See bug 457740 for more info.

I suppose we could backport to f8/f9, but it's a pretty large amount of change at this point. Adding christoph to see what he thinks here.

Comment 2 Muayyad Alsadi 2008-10-11 21:15:27 UTC
I'll be glad to test them
can I get the packages with
yum --enablerpeo=rawhide installgroup xfce-desktop

without installing F10 BETAs

Comment 3 Kevin Fenzi 2008-10-11 23:43:17 UTC
Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to partially upgrade like that.
You would be better off just upgrading all the way to rawhide, or testing using a Live media.

The Beta and the weekly snapshot isos from today should either one let you do that.

IMO we should wait until we figured out what goes wrong in bug # 465805 and till Xfce 4.4.3 has been pushed. Or we should apply the patches directly in the 4.4.3 update (if they are not already applied upstream). Nevertheless this needs testing, I don't want to risk breaking anything.

Comment 5 Kevin Fenzi 2009-01-14 05:44:25 UTC
Muayyad: Can you test with F10? The 4.4.3 there should have the patch and be working...

feedback would be most welcome.

Comment 6 Muayyad Alsadi 2009-01-14 08:19:58 UTC
I guess it works in F10
but it does not create those directories if they does not exist
but I'm not sure

I'll do some texts on virtual machine to install xfce alone without kde nor gnome and I'll check if it create ~/Desktop or not at first login

thanks for your interest

Comment 7 Christoph Wickert 2009-01-14 14:15:20 UTC
It works in F-10 and I will also make those changes to F-9 after we have finished Xfce 4.6 in rawhide. xdg-user-dirs-update should take care of creating the updates, so we need to require it in xfdesktop I guess.

Comment 8 Muayyad Alsadi 2009-01-14 16:12:15 UTC
good,

I meant tests
