Example of reference tables listing relevant cluster.conf parameter names

Description of problem:
"Appendix C. HA Resource Parameters" only lists GUI tool field names for the various resource parameters. This requires cross referencing whenever one wants to write cluster.conf configuration by hand.

The tables would be a lot more useful if displayed with the relevant cluster.conf options aswell. I have included an example as an attachement.

This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for
inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated in the
current release, Red Hat is unfortunately unable to address this
request at this time. Red Hat invites you to ask your support
representative to propose this request, if appropriate and relevant,
in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Just to add info to this:

At a minimum, we can add the note we provide elsewhere: For a comprehensive list and description of cluster.conf elements and attributes, refer to the cluster schema at usr/share/cluster/cluster.rng, and the annotated schema at /usr/share/doc/cman-X.Y.ZZ/cluster_conf.html (for example /usr/share/doc/cman-3.0.12/cluster_conf.html).

That is also where the info for updating this table should be.

We also might make this a RHEL 6 bug as well.

[Re-assigning the bug to me...]

Some research here unearths the logic behind the initial decision not to include the cluster.conf parameter names in this table: Most (if not all?) changes to cluster support change the supported schema, so having the cluster.conf annotated schema in one place -- one file that must be updated with every change -- was decided as the best approach.

But this was added for RHEL 6 -- I'm not sure whether we supply a cluster schema for RHEL 5 yet.

So I'll clone this bug for RHEL 6 (next release 6.1) and I'm putting this in needinfo to ask Lon what the status is for RHEL 5.

So:

LON:

What is the status with including a cluster.conf schema for a release of RHEL 5? Have we done this, or do we plan to?

Comment 6 Steven J. Levine 2011-06-13 16:53:02 UTC
The RHEL 6 bug in which I am addressing this is BZ#696897.

I have checked a RHEL 5.7 system, and it does not look as if the cluster schema is there. So for RHEL 5 I'll have to leave this as is, with plans to address this in RHEL 6. For RHEL 6 I have added a reference to this schema and the bug is still open for that release to see about expanding the cluster.conf table to include parameter names. But I'm closing this for RHEL 5.

Comment 7 Steven J. Levine 2011-06-13 16:55:50 UTC
I'm re-opening this because on second thought I think I need to verify with Lon Hohberger whether we provide the cluster.conf schema in RHEL 5 or whether I just have a build that's missing this.

On RHEL5, the schema and reference are provided in the
system-config-cluster rpm.

Schema is here:

/usr/share/system-config-cluster/misc/cluster.ng

Doc is here:

/usr/share/doc/system-config-cluster-1.0.57/cluster_conf.html
